I have tried this a couple of times, and it doesn’t always work out. If I used a Benjamin Moore paint or a Sherwin Williams paint in a room, and needed to do touch ups, I would not use a different paint brand and try to color match it. That said, there is one instance when I would not color match paint. Again, interior designers and people who are more perceptive than I am and may pick up an undertone that’s not quite right may say differently, but I haven’t noticed any major differences between the colors I’ve had color matched and the ones I haven’t. That’s not to say the color might be slightly different, I’ve just never noticed a huge difference. I have matched BM paint dozens of times, and it always turns out fine for me. Benjamin Moore even has a commercial running that encourages people to buy the paint directly from Benjamin Moore because the colors can’t be guaranteed when matched elsewhere. Purists will say no, it’s not a good idea to color match the paint. In case you were wondering, Home Depot does not sell Benjamin Moore paint, which is why color-matching is a common practice if you’re looking for a Benjamin Moore color, but don’t live near a Benjamin Moore store.Īside from Benjamin Moore stores, BM paint is sold at ACE Hardware locations, and specialty paint stores (like Ring’s End in New England).
